Anti Design 1966-1980

Anti-design the movemnt that rejected the main stream design that was going around at the time, it esstablished it's place in the 1969's, it was rather popular in italy , it came about through the rejection of consumerisim they believed it was a cheap market ploy.

The anti design movement incoraged stricking colours, and scale distortion it was a movement of styled art , you would look at a object and its functionality is there buy your eye wouldn't recognize it.
the architecture in this time was known as Radical Design

The Anti-Desing rebels thought that design should be a mash up of fuction and fun, the modernist were following these lines of functionality and linearity, while the Anti-designer wanted to creat somthing that was useful and looks like a joke basically somthing that would make you smile.

This chair by Vico Magistretti made in 1966 made from the material polyester with added reinforcements.

The Anti-designer where obsessed with conventional spaces, saving space or having multipurpose areas.
They designed many chairs and other furniture that was stackable, foldable or even collapsible, with all this engineering designs they found difficulty finding manufactures and crafts people to bring their designs to life. This chair was manufactured by Artemide

This chair if from the Ikea collection

This chair is mass produced and probably sells millions a day, the form of this design reflects the Anti-design chair we saw above.
This chair is purely functional, and has the extra function of being stackable, not much has changed, this Ikea chair is made from durable plastic that lasts a long time it comes in many colours going against the Anti-designer by feeding the mass consumer.
